Pictured from left- Judge/Clinician Walter Comire, Trainer/Instructor Becca GT, Dara Fidrych, Stephanie Gill, Athena Metaxas, Julia Eddy and Lisa Audette pose with their awards following PVEC's Dressage Ride & Critique Clinic/Horse Show PondView 1st Dressage Ride & Critique Clinic/Horse Show PondView Equestrian Center’s first-ever Dressage Ride and Critique Horse Show/Clinic was an amazing success! Held Sunday, March 21st, the event drew spectators and participants alike. The warm, sunny weather, coupled with classical music being played over the speakers provided an elegant, relaxing backdrop for all! Judge/Clinician, Mr. Walter Comire, along with scribe, Nancy Beauvais, scored and provided feedback for 8 riders who each rode 2 tests twice, for a total of 32 rides for the day. PVEC trainer, Becca GT devised the time schedule, which allowed each rider 15 minutes for the first ride of each test to complete the pattern and receive feedback from the judge/clinician. Each rider returned to the warm-up ring where they worked with their trainer on the elements that were needed to present a better score the next time around. Then each rider was given 10 minutes to complete their second ride of the test and receive closing remarks from the judge with the higher of the 2 scores prevailing for the final pinning of each class. Each class was awarded beautiful dressage medals for 1st through 6th place, with the winners being presented duffel bags for their efforts. In addition, PondView awarded Hi-Point Division Championships with tri-color ribbons and rolling carry-on style luggage to the winners. Riders were prompt and even rode ahead of their scheduled ride times, making the day go by smoothly and without time conflicts. Lunch consisted of gourmet sandwiches, chips and drinks, and was provided courtesy of G-7 Catering, of Thompson, CT. Mrs. Pauline Comire, Lu Guilbault, and Shirley Russell made quick work of the score tallying and handled the secretarial duties for the day. PondView Assistant Instructor, Lindsay Ketchen called test movements for the riders and helped PVEC trainer, Becca GT with coaching riders in the warm-up arena. Jen LaPorte, who made it to the event later in the afternoon, was still able to provide several nice photos of the division winners. PondView would like to say a big "Thank You" to all our volunteers who helped make the event such a success! For their first-ever attempt at hosting and running a Dressage Ride and Critique Horse Show/Clinic, PondView surpassed all expectations, even completing a permanent raised staging area in their indoor arena, where the judge and scribe could watch the riders perform their tests. The feedback has been excellent, and be sure to watch for the next time PondView will be hosting such an event again, perhaps late summer, 2010! Mandie and Jazz share a moment of triumph at Sport Horse Nationals 2009
2009 Sport Horse Nationals as told by PondView rider, Amanda Soter 2009 Sport Horse Nationals was the show I had been waiting for my whole life. Since I was a little girl, I drove my parents and trainer crazy telling them “I want the roses”. Well, this year, we got them! Jazz and I had an unbelievable regional show, placing in all of our classes and taking home five Regional Championships. We upped our training between Regionals and Nationals and it defiantly paid off. My first Top 10 was received Friday night in the under saddle Open Final. When they called #399 my heart dropped and I looked at Becca to make sure I heard them correctly; the tears in her eyes answered my question. Starting out with 58 riders, Jazz and I were in the Top 10. I couldn’t believe it, I was finally trotting over to receive my very first Top 10, on the horse I had ridden since she was a baby, in the Open- it was unbelievable. When we arrived back at the stables I was rushed with sobbing, ecstatic parents and an extremely proud breeder and farm owner, Lu. Jazz and I did it again Saturday afternoon going Top 10 in the under saddle ATR class. The feeling didn’t dwindle at all, the same rush of emotions came over everyone. At that point, I was on cloud nine with no reason to return to reality, and the rest of the show was gravy. Little did I know, the best was yet to come. Sunday was the last day of the show and Jazz and my Dressage Training Level AAOTR class. The test was beautiful and knowing how long the wait would be to find out results was killing me. To distract me, we began packing up and organizing all of our stuff. On our way up to check the results we were stopped by my mother. Her reaction gave it away, she leapt out of the car balling her eyes out with my test in her hand. That was when we knew that we were the Reserve National Champion!! We all ran back to the stalls to get ready for our presentation and picture, and before we knew it I was being presented the trophy and garland of roses. It was the most amazing feeling in the world, and I think Jazz felt it too because she was glowing during our victory pass, and strutted her roses all the way back to the stalls. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of my parents, my brother Derek, my trainer Becca, my second mom Lu, and all of the Pondview Crowd. They were texting me and watching live feed all week long, and I can’t thank them enough for all the support! Thanks to all of you so much for making my childhood dream come true! I couldn’t have done it without any one of you!! "Jazz" is proudly being offered for Free Lease at PondView Equestrian Center for the 2010 season. Take advantage of what this superstar has to offer you as a rider!!! Please call Becca GT at 401.710.7474- Serious inquiries only please!

The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties. PondView Equestrian Center Show Team pose for a photo at the RIAHA Awards Banquet
RIAHA Year End Awards Banquet The RIAHA Annual Year End Awards Banquet took place at the Village Haven in Forestdale, RI. The tone of the festive day was set as soon as you walked into the place, which was wonderfully lit and decorated for the occasion. Hand-made centerpieces adorned the tables and there were 2 large tables of raffle items to be taken a chance on. The faces of all the year-end award winners were bright with anticipation for what promised to be a banquet no one would soon forget. And they were not disappointed. The new format for the banquet, tried out by the committee for the very first time, drew an overwhelming response of positive feedback from all those involved. From the winners themselves, to their family and friends who came along to share in the honors, the accolades were appreciated in a much different light this year. Usually the winners are brought up one at a time, to form a group of winners from each division. This usually takes a long time to get through all the winners. Many people make several trips to the “winners circle” and it becomes increasingly difficult to wade through the crowd, time and time again as they go up to claim their awards. Not this year! Each award winner was brought up individually as their total list of accomplishments were read by MC, Pauline Comire and they received a beautiful plaque, engraved with the list of all their awards for the past show season. The committee decided to go with plaques rather than ribbons which inevitably end up stashed in some box by next year. This way, each and every award winner had the opportunity to go in the front of the room and be recognized and photographed with all their awards. And did I mention the awards? The RIAHA banquet committee typically outdo themselves when purchasing awards for their participants in the year-end program. No dust-collecting trophies and one-size-fits-all jackets for this club! The RIAHA prides itself in figuring out exactly what each participant needs, and tailoring their awards to suit each individual. Sometimes, when a participant has won several Championships in a few different divisions, the committee will combine the awards and purchase a bigger, more expensive award to cover the spread. Prizes the RIAHA has awarded to their winners include, Diamond Wool saddle-pads, Dover fleece-lined jumping boots, Dover Circuit Bridles, Raised Breastplate Martingales, IRH Show Helmets, SSG leather riding gloves, Oster Pro-Cordless clippers, Dover fleece wither-relief pads, Gel saddle pads, plus horse sheets, coolers, blankets, etc…just to name a few. My personal favorite award has got to be the gorgeous fleece-lined suede jacket by Moxie Equestrian that I won this year as RIAHA Trainer of the Year. It fits perfectly and has a beautifully embroidered logo on the back- very classy and very much appreciated! Thank you RIAHA Year-End Awards Banquet Committee!
PondView Trainer Becca GT dons her favorite award...the RIAHA Trainer of the Year Jacket sponsored by Mr and Mrs Comire of Ledgewood Farm The RIAHA Year End Awards Banquet was extra-special this year for many reasons. I could go on and on, but don’t take my word for it… Here are a few thoughts from some Year End Awards Winners themselves…
“I absolutely loved the
idea of getting a plaque listing all of our accomplishments instead of
ribbons because we already get ribbons during the show season. The
plaques really change things up. I also liked the new way RIAHA grouped
the winners by the rider and what divisions they won, and how we each
got our own moment to be in the spotlight.” -Julia Eddy “I would have to say the most memorable moment for us would be Pauline Comire repeatedly saying, "the more accomplishments, the bigger the plaque." I must say that Mrs.Comire is certainly the life of the party, even my husband looks forward to hearing what she will say next.” - Julie Baker “I really enjoyed the set up this year for the banquet. Each rider who won anything was seen and recognized, as where sometimes you don't realize who won what, and who was there. To know people are cheering for you as you go up to receive your awards was awesome.” -Laura Hauser Congratulations to all the winners: Lisa Audette- Indigo- Reserve Champion Open Breed 18 & over Sara Audette- Indigo- 3rd Open Breed 17 & Under Misty Baker- Heartbreaquer and Flicca- Champion Showmanship, Champion PB Walk-Trot 12 & under, Reserve Champion PB Showmanship, Reserve Champion PB W/T Jr Equitation, 3rd PB W/T Jr Equitation, 3rd PB W/T Jr and 6th PB Halter Alicia Bergeron- PF Wild Thing and Microchip- Champion HA W/T Jr Equitation, Champion HA W/T Jr 12 & under, Reserve Champion Open Breed 17 & under Jarret Bergeron- PF Wild Thing and Microchip- Champion HA Western, Champion HA Hunter Pleasure, Champion Open Breed 17 & under Mindy Comeau- Sir Cyclone O’Fire and Miss Sassy May- Reserve Champion HA Halter, Reserve Champion Showmanship, Reserve Champion Open Breed 17 & under Cheryl Courtemanche- Heartbreaquer- 4th PB Halter, 3rd PB Sport Horse in Hand, 3rd WTC Sr Equitation, 5th PB Hunter Pleasure

PONDVIEW NEWS (March) Becca GT has just returned home from CA where she and her husband became graduates of the “Rick Seaman’s Motion Picture Driving Clinic- Stunt Super Level I”. The experience was one which she and Matt will not soon forget as so much material was covered in a 3-day period pertaining to all aspects of stunt driving for films. The pair was part of a 3-person class, learning skid turns, 90’s, 180’s, reverse spins, drifting, 270’s and 360’s. A large part of the class was also dedicated to tech sessions and what to look for when preparing your car on a movie set. Rick and his team of dedicated professionals host corporate events as well, for anyone interested in something truly unique and exciting, you may visit their website at: www.rickseamanstuntdrivingschool.com. Congratulations to Kim Parente of Brookfield, CT for her recent purchase of Anna Werge’s “Nick at Knight”. Nike’s new home will be at Trowbridge’s Ltd where he and Kim will be working together as a new team. PondView would like to wish the best of luck to the pair! The Rhode Island Arabian Horse Association just held its annual year-end awards banquet on Sunday, March 22 at the Village Haven Restaurant in Forestdale, RI. PondView riders racked up an impressive array of awards, including many of the “Special High-Point” honors at the event. (For a complete breakdown of the award-winners, please see Affiliations Story for RIAHA elsewhere in this issue of the Equine Journal.) Some highlights include the “2008 Rider of the Year” being presented to PondView’s Kim Lussier and the “2008 High Point Arabian” went to Kim’s PB mare, Flicca. “Best All-Around Team” went to PondView Rider Amanda Soter and her Half-Arabian mare, Jazz Interlude in B and the “2008 RIAHA Trainer of the Year” award went to Becca GT. Congratulations to PondView riders, Lisa Audette (Indigo), Sara Audette (Indigo), Misty Baker (Heartbreaquer, Flicca), Cheryl Courtemanche (Heartbreaquer), Julia Eddy (RAE Taylor Made), Dara Fidrych (Kasets Premier), Kelly Foote (Jazz Interlude in B), Laura Hauser (Heartbreaquer, In the Mood), Emma Kane (Heartbreaquer), Amy Kasper (SB Bodecia), Kim Lussier (Flicca), Amanda Soter (Jazz Interlude in B), Jennifer Szela (Heartbreaquer), and Anna Werge (Nick at Knight) for an incredible 2008 show season! Trainer, Becca GT would like to thank all the PondView clients for an amazing 2008! You are the reason PondView has become the successful stable that it is. As we look forward to 2009, amidst all the influences coming in from the “outside world” with regard to the struggling economy, job losses, etc…we are reminded of why we choose to sacrifice to stay involved with these fine animals in the first place. By just nickering to us when we bring them in for a workout, they give us solace amidst the chaos we cannot control. Working hard in lessons and advancing our riding skills are positive influences in that we are constantly reaching for new goals. PondView has several riders with new horses this year, as well as many riders making the jump to a different age division. In this transition year, PondView riders, as well as the rest of the world, will undoubtedly have to tackle new challenges. However, the opportunities that exist between the challenges should be well worth the struggle to achieve. These tough times will help us to redefine who we are, where we are going, and what we plan to do when we get there. Our horses help us to lay the foundation for us to strive toward attainable goals, and have a lot of fun in the process! Good luck to everyone this coming year. May your hopes and dreams become a reality… and never stop reaching, even just a little further, to better yourself and your horse.
